If you’re unfamiliar with the show, Leslie Knope (played by the incredible Amy Poehler) is an uber-enthusiastic and hugely passionate councilwoman for the town of Pawnee in Indiana.
But Leslie is also known for being the best ever BFF, especially to her gal pals (“uteruses before duderuses”; “ovaries before brovaries”). In fact, she loved her girlfriends so much that she invented Galentine’s Day to celebrate all the amazing women in her life.
Leslie describes Galentine’s Day as “the best day of the year”. It’s an annual breakfast she hosts every February 13th (Valentine’s Day eve), where she showers her besties with gifts and delicious food and uses the opportunity to tell them why they’re amazing and why they matter to her.
She says: “Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”
